Crows Nest, Agnes Water

Crow Nest House is perched above the township of Agnes Water and 1770 on Queensland’s Discovery Coast.  It was designed as a retreat for a young couple and as a place to host friends and family.

The house coils around itself on the top of the hill, with the bedroom tower anchoring onto a rocky outcrop and living quarters cantilevered off the hillside.  The form creates a central private deck that address the principal view and panoramic sweep.

The timbers will be allowed to age to a silver grey with the passing of time. The interiors form a chain of relaxed coastal volumes, tempered from the intense tropical light. Expressed detailing in local hardwoods and timber veneers contrast with articulated white plaster and polished concrete.
